Welcome to LOUD,
Leighton-Linslade Opposes Unsustainable Development
LOUD is an Action Group made up of ordinary people who are local residents of Leighton Buzzard, Linslade and surrounding villages united in our opposition to unsustainable mass housing development in and around our town.
In the last few years we have seen huge housing developments, constructed mainly in the south of the town all built without supporting infrastructure of local shops, schools, medical, community and sporting facilities etc
The group formed as a direct result of the Leighton Buzzard Observer front page Town could almost double in size, describing the Arnold White/Willis Dawson proposal to build thousands of houses on Green Belt land to east of the town.
The development proposed would come in two phases. The first covers 6000 houses on 850 acres from the A505 to Heath Road (click here for a map).
However, the developers have also asked for a further 425 acres (180 hectares) be set aside for development beyond 2021 (click here for a map). That could mean an additional 3,000 - 6,000 houses, depending on the housing densities applied.
All communities need to expand gradually as the population grows, but we believe in controlled sustainable development for future building projects in Leighton Linslade; regeneration of our historic town centre that has been woefully neglected over the years and that no future housing growth is permitted until existing infrastructure deficit is addressed.
If you are opposed to mass developments on Green Belt that will destroy what is left of our historic market town, then sign our Petition by e-mail from the comfort of your own home, then look at the other things you can do in How can I get involved. Read how we got here in A Bit of History. Find out more about the reasons why the present development proposals will be so bad for our area in Why We Oppose.
Were saying Enough is Enough. Will you join us?
